Compass Films is proud to present the Arctic Residency, a residency for filmmakers only
Located in the most Northern village of Iceland, the Arctic Residency is under 500 metres from the Arctic Circle, in a small community with a population of just 189 whilst surrounded by some of the most beautiful nature and bird life that Iceland has to offer, just minutes away across the Melrakkaslétta peninsula.
Raufarhöfn is a small fishing village and because of its geographical location it has the longest days in Iceland during the Summer and the shortest ones during the Winter. In the village you can find all of the basic services such as health centre, pharmacy, swimming pool, grocery store, bank, post office, petrol station, garage, gallery, hotel and a pub. Although plenty of amenities, Raufarhöfn is still a remote village with the nearest town approx. 2 hours drive from the village.
Plenty of activites in and near the village include: horse riding, fishing from the harbour or nearby lakes, bird watching, sailing to the arctic circle and foraging for mushrooms or berries (seasonal).
About the Arctic Residency
We bought our little piece of heaven a few years ago and after a couple of years of renovations and after having completely fallen in love with our second home, we’re now ready to offer it to you. We want you to stay and enjoy our home away from home as much as we do, but don’t stop there – we want to offer our second home to filmmakers for free! Being filmmakers ourselves we understand the importance of getting away from all the distractions that everyday life brings, to be able to write that script you’ve always been thinking about or to edit your latest project in a new and relaxing environment. We also understand if you just want some time away to get inspired, to explore the area, breathe in the sea air, meet new people and hopefully return one day to make a film in the area.
We offer your the Arctic Residency for up to 3 months for free between the months of January – June and September – December, dates are flexible. We will arrange transport from the nearest town where you can drive to or take a domestic flight to, this town is Husavík. We offer a cleaner at the end of your stay but request that you treat the property with respect and keep it clean during your stay, all breakages must be reported and may need to be compensated.
We understand that sometimes it’s good to get away from the family to work but with our busy work & family life commitments, we understand that sometimes we just have to juggle both. We completely understand this and therefore offer our filmmaker residency to filmmakers and their family’s. A three-bedroom property with 1 king size bed, 1 double bed, bunkbeads and a sofabed (for 2) in the living room. A fully equiped kitchen, dining room, large living room, office and plenty of old cameras and DVDs to inspire you whilst you’re there.
