Iceland is a country within easy reach between Europe and North America, with a variety of landscapes. From Arctic Winters to 24-hour daylight in the Summer months, Iceland offers a wealth of locations and highly experienced crews and a tax incentive of 25%.

We service, produce and co-finance films that shoot or post-produce in Iceland.
We are very experienced in international co-productions and understand the various complex legal and financial arrangements required.

We have experience in applying to national and international funds such as the Icelandic Film Centre, Creative Europe MEDIA Funds, Nordisk Film & TV Fund and Eurimages amongst others.

Compass Films has worked on international productions in a servicing, fixing or field producing capacity including:

  • Fishing Impossible for BBC Earth with Alaska TV
  • Naomi’s Nightmares of Nature for the BBC
  • The Big Fish for BBC with Ben Fogle
  • Freezing Works for Maori Television
  • River Monsters for ITV/Discovery with Icon Films

I worked with Compass Films on the Big Fish. We took a team of 30 people on location to Iceland. I was so impressed with Heather and Thordurs organisation and dedication to this project. They have a can do approach to everything and were paramount in setting up a really complex shoot which involved a variety of boats from all over Iceland, diving, transport and accommodation. We really could not have made this happen without them. When on location Thordur travelled with us and quickly developed a great rapport with our contributors. I cannot recommend Compass Films enough, they made what could have been a total logistical nightmare into a smooth, calm, fun and highly successful trip.
